The beauty of the conventional forks is that you can add oil with the forks still on the bike. So if you measure 130 from the top and the bike bottoms too harshly, undo one cap at a time and let the weight of the bike push the assemly up a bit. Get a Baby Tylenol syringe and add five mm at a time until the bottoming reistance feels good.
Use The Seal Driver. With the oil seal on get out your seal driver and rubber mallet. Placing the driver on the edge of the seal, take the mallet and strike the seal driver to force the seal down. It will take a reasonable amount of force from the mallet but start softly and build up.
Hey I’ve done a tone of testing on forks with the bbr springs and rods I recommend 30wt oil and 130 from the top with the fork completely compressed and the spring out then also don’t put the preload spacer back in. Posted July 21, 2009. according to my manual '86-'89 forks should be 535cc. nick. My manual says the same. You can use more or less oil to provide more or less damping. Maximum oil level, measured from the top of the tube with the springs out and fork collapsed, is 125mm (more damping) Minumum level is 165mm (less damping).

Posted March 29, 2013. So pull the forks and change the oil. Easy enough! Pull the front wheel and brake calipra off. Then loosen the top triple tree and leave the bottom one tight. Then loosen (JUST LOOSEN) the top fork tube caps. Now loosen the bottom triple tree clamp and remove the tubes. Unscrew the fork cap.
However, use what makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside!!! My specs came directly from Honda 's OEM service manual, 1985, page 11-14 11-15. Not sure why the other chap's specs are different. Not when you consider the variation in viscosity among the different brands. Maxima 10wt fork oil has a viscosity of 32 cSt @ 40C.
